Who We Are
Compress PDF File is a free, browser-based PDF compression tool built by developers and privacy advocates who believe compressing a PDF should be simple, fast, and — above all — private.
Unlike traditional online PDF tools that require you to upload confidential documents to remote cloud servers, we engineered our engine to run entirely within your web browser. Your files never leave your device.
Why We Built This
Nearly every "free" PDF compressor on the internet requires uploading your files to remote servers — exposing confidential contracts, financial statements, medical records, and personal documents to unknown third parties.
What if a PDF compressor could be both powerful and private? We built Compress PDF File in JavaScript, on open-source PDF libraries, so it compresses your files without ever uploading them.
How It Works
When you drop a PDF into our tool, here is what happens:
- File stays local: Your PDF is read directly from your device into your browser's memory. No network requests are made.
- In-browser processing: The compression engine runs in a background thread of your browser. It resamples images, removes unused objects and private metadata, and repacks the file.
- Instant download: The compressed file is generated locally for immediate download. Once you close or refresh the page, all data is purged from memory.
Our Technology
Compress PDF File is built with open-source tools: pdf-lib (reading and rebuilding PDFs), PDF.js (rendering pages), the browser's own image codecs, Astro and Tailwind CSS.
